If you’ve ever had a brilliant quarter where you’re at capacity, turning work away, and then suddenly looked up to find your pipeline empty, this is for you.
Today’s episode of the Authority Builder Podcast is about a kind of client you can’t rely on content alone to reach.
The clients who were never going to find you.
And yes, I’m going to mention a free training you can watch right now (it’s on demand). I’ll explain what it covers and why it’s worth your time.

A couple of years ago, a woman I’d been working with sent me a screenshot on a Thursday morning.
She runs a small web design studio. Two people, sometimes three. Great work. Lovely clients.
But she never knew where the next project was coming from.
The screenshot was a LinkedIn message from someone she’d never spoken to.
Not a mutual connection. Not a referral. Not a newsletter reader. Just a stranger asking if she had capacity and whether they could have a chemistry call.
By the Friday the following week, the project was signed.
£30,000.
Here’s the key part: she hadn’t posted anything. She hadn’t gone on a podcast. She hadn’t done anything that week except reply to her messages.
The system had been running for 14 days.
This is what I see over and over again in service businesses.
You’re good at what you do. That’s not the issue.
The issue is inconsistency.
You have strong periods where you’re busy and confident. Then, eight weeks later, you’re staring at an empty pipeline and wondering how you got here again.
So you do what everyone recommends.
You try to be “more visible”.
You post more. You network. You try Reels or short-form video (and you hate it). You publish LinkedIn posts. You start a newsletter. You do it for months.
And what comes back?
A few likes from peers.
One message from someone selling SEO services.
And the thought you don’t want to say out loud:
I’m doing everything I’m supposed to be doing, and it isn’t working.
This might be a relief. Or it might annoy you.
But I don’t think most service businesses have a visibility problem.
Most are visible enough:
The problem is simpler and more painful:
The right people aren’t landing on your page.
Not because your content is bad.
Because there’s no mechanism that consistently puts you in front of them.
You’re waiting to be found by people who are not actively looking for you.
That’s not a marketing problem.
It’s a maths problem.
Let’s draw a distinction that changes everything.
You put something out and hope the right person:
That’s a lot of hoping.
Stack hope on top of hope and you don’t have a plan. You have a lottery ticket.
You decide who you want to work with.
You define “right fit” based on what you already know works (industry, size, location, business style, personality, the type of clients they serve).
Then you go and find those specific people.
You start conversations with them.
I know what you’re picturing when I say outreach.
Messages like:
“Hi Charlotte, I see you’re a founder. I’d love to hop on a quick 15-minute call to explore synergies.”
Delete. Block. Never think about it again.
So people conclude outreach doesn’t work.
What they’ve actually concluded is:
Bad outreach doesn’t work.
The outreach that does work is quieter, slower, and much less annoying.
It’s also far more sustainable.
LinkedIn will let you send around 100 connection requests a week.
No hack. No fancy automation. That’s just the ceiling on a free account.
Let’s be conservative:
Now assume a normal acceptance rate, about one third, if you’re targeting properly.
That’s roughly:
Now imagine posting in front of those people.
You’re not fighting the algorithm the same way.
You’re not hoping strangers stumble across you.
You’re building a relevant network that actually sees your name regularly.
And here’s the part most people miss:
If you sell expertise at a professional price point, you might only need four or five great clients a year to make it an excellent year.
Sometimes you need two.
So the question becomes:
How do I build a steady, unglamorous habit that surfaces the few people who are genuinely a fit?
The single biggest mistake people make on LinkedIn is pitching in the first message.
They connect, get accepted, then immediately send:
“Thanks for connecting. Here’s what I do. Would you like to book a call?”
It creates instant recoil.
It’s like walking up to a stranger at a party and asking them to marry you.
The fix is simple to describe, harder to execute:
Lead with something useful.
Give them something genuinely valuable that costs them nothing and would still be appreciated even if they never hire you.
Examples:
When you give someone something useful, three things happen at once:
That last one matters more than most people realise.
The connection is not the asset.
The relationship on a channel you control is the asset.
This is the shape of an outreach system that doesn’t feel gross:
Connect. With a specific person for a specific reason.
Give. Something useful and real.
Invite. Only after they’ve received value, invite them into a conversation.
I’ve shared the shape and the maths here.
But I haven’t shown you the parts that make it work in practice, including:
That’s why I recorded a 60-minute free training called The Invisible Pipeline.
It’s on demand. You can pause it, come back to it, and watch it when you want.
No cost. No sales call attached. No one chasing you afterwards.
Inside the training, you’ll see:
Most profiles describe you.
The ones that convert are written so a specific person feels understood.
I show you the differences and the few changes that actually move the needle.
How to build a list using the right filters so you’re connecting with people who could genuinely hire you.
The sequence, what each message is doing, why the order matters, and what increases reply rates.
The tool, the setup, and how it becomes a “10 minutes a day” habit rather than a project you abandon in week three.
Often they are. And I show you how to check quickly rather than guessing.
This is designed for non-technical people. If you can use email, you can run this.
This isn’t that. It does take consistency.
But it’s not hours a day.
It’s a small daily habit that compounds.
Watch the free training:

It’s also linked in the show notes.
Put in your email and it opens straight away. You’ll have access for up to a week.
Once you’ve watched it, email me.
Tell me what came up for you.
Ask the question you feel silly asking.
Or tell me the one detail about your business that makes you think this won’t work.
I’ll record a personalised video back, based on your actual situation, so you can get an honest view on how I’d approach it.
